CHANGE MANAGEMENT
Case Study Summary

Keeping the RAF in the air – Change Management for Airbus Military UK
The challenge
New problem-detection technology introduced to a fleet based at RAF Brize Norton had increased the number of reports of quality and safety issues, resulting in insufficient numbers of aircraft being airworthy at any given time. Change Associates was asked to help change the culture, processes and operational causes behind the challenge.
What we did
We created a programme to improve the operating model and processes, make step changes in the supply chain, and work with the senior team to create a positive and productive culture focused on continuous improvement and quality management.
Our consultants used stakeholder management, communication, engagement, coaching, and change management to ensure all stakeholders played their part in initiatives to improve the fleet’s airworthiness.
The result
-
Within one year of the programme, the majority of the aircraft was airworthy.
-
This enabled Airbus Military UK to play a vital role in transporting PPE during the COVID-19 pandemic.
-
CEO Ian Burrett credits the programme as being critical to the company’s operational effectiveness and ability to respond effectively to crises.
